I had bought some pny cards in the past, but they were always just a tiny bit bigger than every other card. I always try and buy the same cards so when I need to clone one disk to another it actually fits. I've only bought SanDisk and Samsung u3 micro sd cards for the odroid-xu4 and my pi's.
Only thing that sucks is that you still have to have your boot partition on either emmc or sd, but moving root elsewhere is easy with uboot The once off times like the power going out didn't corrupt the disk to the point it wouldn't boot without fsck, it just ran fsck on boot as it's supposed to. Last time it "crashed" was due to a power outage, it's been way more stable running root on ssd.
I've never had an emmc so I dunno if filesystem corruption is as bad as as running from an SD card, but what did make a huge difference was running root on a hdd/ssd via USB 3 to sata. I did used to get random crashes and freezing, improper shut down on the xu4 is an os killer! More often than not, my odroid wouldn't boot again till I popped the sd into another machine and ran fsck I've ran arch on the odroid-xu4 more than anything else. What OS are you running and the OS was running from SD card right? I hate to necro bump bc who knows if you'll even ever see this, but I was linked to op's post.
